Digital X-rays and CT Scanner
Dental x-rays are pictures of the teeth, bones, and surrounding soft tissues to screen for and help identify problems with the teeth, mouth, and jaw. X-ray pictures can show cavities, hidden dental structures (such as wisdom teeth), and bone loss that cannot be seen during a visual examination. They are considered “standard of care” for all dental patients.
All of our offices utilize digital x-rays for patient care. Your appointments will be faster because we don’t need to wait for film to be processed; digital x-rays come out instantly. Also, digital radiography uses a smaller fraction of radiation compared to traditional films. We can keep your x-ray exposure to a minimum, while still getting the diagnostic information you and your doctor need.
Our office is unique in that we have our own in-house CT Scanner. CT scans let us see the jawbone in three dimensions. Though CT scans are not needed for an assessment of general oral health, they are vital in implantology and wisdom tooth extractions. For instance, you and the doctor can see exactly where the nerve is, in 3D, relative to the tooth. Fewer surgical surprises mean safer treatment for you and your loved ones.
